For the well cared indoor kitty, the average cat life expectancy is 12 to 15 years, with females cats generally living a year or two more.

Outdoor cats on the other hand don’t have such an easy life. They experience stress and survival issues everyday – their life span is significantly less at only two to five years.

Cats develop quickly in their early years, reaching the equivalent of an 18 year old teenager at one year and 24 human years by the time they turn two.  Then they age about eight to five human years per cat year thereafter, the number declines as the cat gets more advanced in years.

Some purebred cats mature at different ages than mixed breed cats. For example, a female Siamese cat is sexually mature by 6 months of age, but most mixed breed cats are considered sexually mature at 10-12 months.  Maine Coons and Persians however take their time and mature even later at around two years.  Purebred cats can also have varying life spans: A Siamese cat’s life expectancy is about 15 years, while for Persians it can be up to 17.

What about the big cats?

Cheetahs –

Bobcats –
